It’s no secret that Spa Eastman is adding 3 new healthy, resilient and environmentally-friendly pavilions: the Oasis. How can small choices make a big difference? Find out how these pavilions are designed, and how you can adapt certain aspects to your own home.
1. Solar energy
Thanks to their bioclimatic design and solar roofing, Oasis pavilions offer protection, thermal comfort and solar energy independently of external infrastructure. In other words, pavilions 1 and 2 and their suites will remain very comfortable even in the event of a power failure lasting several days, without the need for generators, which are usually polluting.

2. Sleek, timeless design
This type of design, coupled with the choice of healthy, natural and local materials such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) wood, Quebec hemp insulation, slate, tin roofing and limewash paint, offers beauty, unrivalled comfort and low maintenance for decades to come.
How do I choose materials to build or renovate my home?
There are many materials to choose from, and making choices can be complex. From structure to flooring, insulation and interior finish, the options are endless. If you have some choices to make in the near future, read this blog post on healthy materials to prioritize, written by Solution ERA, experts in green living.

3. A culture of permanence
The outdoor landscaping is inspired by permaculture principles and include an edible landscape and a small food forest with fruit trees and medicinal plants, all set in the heart of the forest.
“Permaculture is not a gardening method. It’s an approach to problem-solving and decision-making. It’s critical thinking. You’re using permaculture. You’re not doing permaculture.” – Larry Santoyo
Is it possible at home?
Have you ever thought it might be possible for you to create gourmet flowerbeds? Why not rethink your choice of plants according to your real needs? What’s more, useful doesn’t have to mean less aesthetic. Go for edible plants as well as native varieties that require little or no watering.
4. Low-flow devices

All showers, sinks and appliances are low-flow or Energy Star to minimize water consumption. We also collect rainwater to ensure 100% watering of the grounds and greenhouse.
How can I adapt it to my home?
According to experts, the average Canadian consumes 274 liters of water per day, and the average Quebecer nearly 386 liters of water daily, per PERSON!
“If installing an efficient showerhead is one of the most environmentally-friendly things you can do for your home, why not make it a gift? Here’s an idea for an inexpensive present for your loved ones. Not only will it save them money on hot water heating, it will also give them the opportunity to make a concrete gesture for the environment!”
There are many ways to reduce the amount of water used in your home. You can install mixing faucets (flow restrictors) rather than mixing faucets, to achieve substantial water savings. For more ways to save water, here’s a text on water waste written by Solution ERA.
5. Year-round production
The huge passive solar greenhouse in the second pavilion enable the garden team to harvest and prepare micro-pods, grow seedlings for the gardens and produce foliage. Customers are also able to take advantage of this place to relax, year-round.

6. Excess heat used
The surplus heat created in the greenhouse is use to heat domestic hot water thanks to an ultra-efficient air-to-water heat pump, resulting in energy savings of over 80%.
How to do it at home?
Heat recovery units are available for installation on existing appliances. If you’re planning to change your heating system to save money and energy, we suggest you explore alternatives to baseboard heaters, such as heat pumps.
7. High-performance wood-burning stove
The two-storey solarium includes a wood-burning stove for added resilience, and a warm, natural ambience. The performance of the new fireplace and wood-burning stove models is nothing to sneeze at, and the carbon savings are substantial; a greener way than a generator to heat the building in an emergency.
How to choose a high-efficiency wood-burning fireplace?
Whether for energy independence, environmental or lifestyle reasons, there are many advantages to choosing a high-efficiency wood-burning fireplace. You can rely on the EPA standard governing environmental protection when making your next purchase. This will ensure that your fireplace is both efficient and environmentally friendly. What’s more, when used correctly, the wood is burnt cleanly, so there’s virtually no smoke emanating from the chimney.
