Closing a season and starting a new one is an excellent opportunity to reflect on past experiences, learn lessons and prepare for the future. This journaling exercise invites you to take stock of the season that is drawing to a close, express gratitude for what it has brought you, identify what you wish to leave behind, and define your intentions and aspirations for the season ahead. Find a quiet place, grab your journal and a pen, and let your thoughts flow freely.
Part 1: Review of the past season
- Start by thinking about the highlights of the season that’s just ended. What were your accomplishments, successes, joys and moments of gratitude? Note the positive events that marked this period.
- Then take time to explore the challenges and obstacles you’ve encountered. How did you overcome them? What have you learned from these experiences?
- Express your emotions about this season. How do you feel when you leave it? Do you feel pride, sadness, excitement or some other emotion? Let your feelings flow freely through your writing.
Part 2: Letting go and gratitude
- Identify what you want to leave behind. It could be behaviors, limiting thoughts, toxic relationships, or anything else that no longer serves you and that you want to let go of.
- Practice gratitude by listing at least five things you’re grateful for this season. These can be small everyday things or significant events. Gratitude helps you enter the new season in a positive state of mind.
Part 3: Intentions for the new season
- Define your intentions for the coming season. What are your goals, desires and aspirations? Think about what you want to achieve, experience or change during this period.
- Think about the concrete actions you can take to realize these intentions. How will you progress towards your goals? What specific steps can you take right now to get closer to what you want to achieve?
- Write a statement of intention for the new season, using positive, motivating affirmations. For example, “I’m opening myself up to new opportunities and showing courage to pursue my dreams.”
