What is acupuncture ?

Acupuncture is one of the treatment practices used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a form of therapeutic health care dating back some 5,000 years.

The theory behind it is that when the flow of energy is imbalanced or blocked, health problems can emerge.

How is acupuncture applied?

1. Initial assessment: clients fill in a questionnaire about the state of their health and why they are seeking treatment. The questions, which are confidential, cover what kinds of symptoms they are experiencing, as well as their medical history, lifestyle and daily routines.

2. A discussion between the client and acupuncture practitioner follows, to determine the course of action. This is based on the particular issue clients want to address – insomnia, weight loos, pain, stress, fatigue and so on.

3. The needles are inserted. The practitioner guides the ultra-fine needles very carefully into the selected acupuncture points (+ or – 20 needles). The recipient might feel a slight prickling or tingling, but any discomfort passes very quickly.

4. Resting and relaxing. The needles are kept in place for between 25-30 minutes. Some people find this stage so relaxing they might even fall asleep!

5. Removal of the needles. After the allotted time has passed, the practitioner gently withdraws the needles.

What are the results of acupuncture?

Due to the fact that each client has his or her own individual needs, the way that acupuncture is applied can differ. The physical after-effects are however, the same – deep relaxation, a reduction (or even disappearance!) of pain and/or discomfort, a feeling of calm, inner peace and serenity, emotional stability, a balance between the body and mind, more energy and a general sense of well-being.

AcuLifting

In addition to completing the steps outlined above, 30 ultra-fine needles are inserted into the face. The Aculifting session ends with a massage by hand and a GUASHA* stone.

The effects are immediate but they are also long-lasting, resulting in the following:

  • Wrinkles fade and the complexion becomes more radiant due to the stimulation of blood circulation and the lymphatic system
  • Better facial symmetry
  • Fine lines are smoothed out and the surface of the skin takes on a refined appearance
  • Blemishes such as acne and rosacea are reduced
  • The skin becomes supple and elastic due to being better hydrated
  • The face becomes more toned
  • The aging process of the skin slows down

*The GUASHA is a smooth, flat massage tool that is dragged across the skin, in order to boost circulation.

Alternative energy treatments

Additional options:

  • Energizing Qi Gong massage:  Pressure and sliding along the meridian and acupuncture points to release energy
  • Moxibustion: A heat therapy using mugwort (a fragrant herb) on the needles to stimulate or warm up an acupuncture point
  • Cupping: The application of heated glass suction cups onto the skin. The resulting vacuum reduces muscle pain and inflammation by boosting blood circulation which, in turn, helps to eliminate toxins. The effect is immediate and the feeling of well-being and relaxation is similar to a deep tissue massage.
  • Lithotherapy: Healing stones and crystals placed on our chakras (energy centres) to rebalance them and allow us to better connect with our bodies, our emotions and our spirituality.
